Consumer Critiques
These BRK smoke alarms have issued alarms twice now, which lasted a variety of hours each and resulted in lost work time. Initially, two of these would beep every single minute and nothing at all I tried would quit it, so I had them replaced, and then these seemed to be OK, but pretty much each and every night we would hear a 1 second alarm. Then two weeks later, the alarms went off steady and nothing we attempted would silence or reset them. We even had the gas firm come out to check the gas applicances for CO2, considering the fact that 2 of the units also had the CO2 detectors built in, but everything checked out fine, so I just started unplugging the units till the alarms stopped. A few days later, the remaining three alarms that I nonetheless had connected began one more false alarm and at some point stopped. I do not have time to put up with challenges like this, and it can result in not even believing your smoke alarms, when it may perhaps be a true fire! I only purchased these given that they had been plug compatible with the 1st Alert, but I will have to rewire the plug and acquire a far better good quality brand.
My property came wired with about 12 of these with the battery back-up. Due to the fact the 9 volt battery is supposed to power the whole system when electrical energy is lost they need to be replaced fairly regularly. They test at about 8.25 volts when expected to be replaced. I have purchased a couple of these non-battery units to replace the ones in the cathedral ceiling that needs a ladder to replace and will invariably commence chirping at 2am on a cold winters morning. I have also replace the a single in our unheated attic which suffers the same fate.
As long as I can get to the unit I will stick with the battery back-ups but for those tricky to reach places these electric models as a superior option.
