My residence was built working with the BRK 9120B smoke alarms. A few months after moving in, they would go off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason (there were no fires). Contacted BRK consumer Service and was told the 9120 was susceptible to power fluctuations and that the power firms were known to 'do things' in the midle of the night. To test I disconnected the electrical connection and ran on battery only for a year - no false alarms. I ordered the 7010B to replace them and so far so superior. The replacement was especially very easy as the connection plug is the very same. I did have to remove and replace the mounting ring but that was only two screws per unit, and even then you only had to loosen the screws.
I purchased several BRK 7010Bs to replace the 4120Bs and 9120Bs that came with my property when it was built. As I've read in countless critiques, each the 4120B and the 9120B would "cry wolf" from cooking and in the middle of the night and randomly chirp. I had sufficient so I did a small bit of research on smoke alarms and sensing technologies.

It would only make sense to me that my smoke alarm could basically sense genuine fire smoke and not just my cooking.
The other cause I chose the 7010B was that it carries the identical standard functions as the 9120B such as the slide out battery compartment, the combined test/silence button, and the ease of installation.
Installation was especially effortless as well. All I had to do was replace the trim ring as the plug was specifically the same. I can't visualize the wire harness getting tricky to replace either if you do your own home electrical work.
So I installed the alarms and that was that until it was time for the true thing (more or less). I had some pasta boil more than on the stove and the burner caught on fire. It wasn't main, maybe 6 to eight inch flames, but a fire nonetheless. I was in the kitchen when it all went down and saw the entire point. It was perhaps ten seconds from the time I saw the flames pop up to the time the smoke alarm in the subsequent area shrieked to life (along with the rest of the interconnected detectors by means of the property). I'm confident that I would have caught it just in time whether or not I saw it occur simply because I know the alarm would have nevertheless gone off.
I should also mention that I have had no problems whatsoever with any of these alarms going off for cooking alone, no midnight false alarms and no random low battery chirps.
